General:
- What are your hours?
- We are open Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m., to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Our lobby is closed on major holidays.
- Where are you located?
- The Resort is located in northern Rio Rancho, at 580 Quantum Road, which is easily accessible off of either Northern Boulevard or Highway 528.
- Can I take a tour of Enchantment?
- You are always welcome to take a tour of the Resort. We give tours any time we are open. You do not need an appointment to tour our facility.
- What vaccinations do you require?
- We require current vaccination information from a veterinarian on all pets visiting the Resort.
Our canine guests must be current on their rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations. Before visiting the Resort, puppies need to have a minimum of 2 distemper/parvo vaccines. At 4 months, they must have had their rabies vaccination. The bordetella vaccination for canine cough is an optional vaccination. If you choose to have your dog vaccinated against bordetella, it must be done 10 days prior to your pet’s Resort visit. We are unable to accept guests who have not completed this 10-day waiting period.
Our feline guests must be current on their rabies and FVRCP (Feline Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia-Chlamydia-Psittaci) vaccinations. Before visiting the Resort, kittens need to have a minimum of 2 FVRCP vaccinations. For both dogs and cats, we accept titers that are within acceptable limits to show adequate vaccination protection. We are unable to accept home vaccinations. - Why don’t you require the bordetella vaccination?
- We have a lot of clients who don't like to vaccinate their dogs any more than they have to. There are many different strains of canine cough and the bordetella vaccine protects your dog against only a few.
The bordetella vaccination can be given through either an injection or an intranasal spray. The intranasal vaccine is a modified live virus and during the first 3 or 4 days after it is given, your dog may be "shedding" it and exposing other dogs to it. During this process, some dogs also exhibit mild symptoms of bordetella. We want to ensure other guests aren't exposed to bordetella and that your dog isn't coming down with a mild case of it. This is why we have the 10-day waiting period...which has worked well for us. The bottom line is, talk with your vet about your dog’s specific health issues and vaccination needs. If your vet recommends the bordetella vaccination, just get it 10 days prior to your pet’s visit. - Why do you require a 10-day waiting period after the bordetella vaccination is given?

- What about canine influenza and the new vaccine for it?
- Canine influenza is a relatively new strain of flu virus affecting dogs. In 2004, the first cases of this new type of flu were reported among greyhounds at several racetracks around the country.
This new canine influenza is not related to bordetella bronchiseptica — more commonly called “kennel” or canine cough. However, symptoms of the canine influenza mimic those of canine cough. Those symptoms include a cough that persists for 10 to 20 days and a possible runny nose. In severe cases of canine flu, dogs develop signs of pneumonia, such as a high fever, lethargy, and difficulty breathing.
To our knowledge, no cases of canine influenza have been diagnosed in New Mexico.
In the spring of 2009, a vaccination was released for canine influenza. At this time, we are not requiring this vaccination. It is always a good idea to talk to your vet about your dog’s particular health needs and whether or not he or she recommends a particular vaccine. - I just adopted my pet from a rescue group. Why do I have to wait three weeks to bring my pet to Enchantment?
- Occasionally pets living in shelters or group rescues contract contagious diseases, such as bordetella (canine cough). Illnesses like bordetella, often have incubation periods, where the pet has the disease and can transmit it to others, but the pet isn’t showing any outward signs of the illness. Our 21 day waiting period gives you time to ensure that your pet is healthy, before bringing her to the Resort. It’s one of the many ways we try to ensure we have a healthful environment at Enchantment.
- What is your healthy pet plan?
- The Healthy Pet Plan is a warranty program. The plan covers contagious illnesses that your pet may contract during his or her stay at the Resort. We work hard to ensure a healthful environment. We clean and disinfect our facility daily. We have an air circulation system that constantly brings fresh air into our facility. But putting pets in common areas is like putting kids together in daycare centers…germs happen.
If your pet is 7 years old or younger, he is covered by the plan and will be charged a nominal fee associated with his lodging, grooming, day care or swim services. The plan’s fees are 50 cents per pet per day. The plan’s maximum coverage is $350.00 per pet per incident. And because we recognize that some illnesses have an incubation period, the plan’s coverage is active for up to 10 days after your pet leaves the Resort. Day Care/Day Camp
- How do I get my dog into day camp?
- All dogs applying for enrollment in our Day Camp or Swim Camp programs must be assessed before they are accepted into either program. Assessments are done over a 3 day period. We like to schedule assessment days consecutively, or as close as possible. There is a $15 assessment/enrollment fee, above the cost of the 3 days of camp or swim camp.
If your dog is not accepted into the Camp program, we may refund any unused days, or credit those funds to your Resort account for future use. Once in our Camp program, dogs may be reassessed periodically. In addition, dogs that have not attended camp in the previous six months need to be reassessed before they are readmitted to camp or swim camp. Please ask our front desk staff about scheduling an appointment for your dog’s assessment. - My dog goes to the dog park and plays well with other dogs. Why do you require an assessment for day camp? And why does it have to be over 3 days?
- Dogs are situational learners. The fact that your dog does well at the dog park shows that he is comfortable with that location, those particular dogs, and with the fact that you are there with him. All of this is a good indication that he may be suitable for off-leash dog play in other circumstances, but it is not a guarantee.
When you enroll your dog in a camp program at Enchantment or any other facility, you are asking him to deal with several new situations simultaneously…a new place, a new way of doing things, as well as new human and canine friends. That’s a lot to deal with. We treat each canine guest as an individual. We want to ensure that your dog has adequate time to get comfortable with each of these new elements. A poorly managed introduction to our staff, our facility, or our regular campers can ruin your dog's first experience in day care at our facility and prevent him from adjusting well. Our 3 day assessment program enables us to take time with all of these introductions. Campers who come to our facility regularly, pull their owners into our lobby and trot off excitedly with one of our staff members to their rooms. We want every camper to be this comfortable and confident at Enchantment. In addition, dog behavior is not static – it can vary based on time of day, the specific dogs in the play group, changes in the environment at home, and changes in different staff members. Having 3 days allows us to see how your dog reacts to various situations and changing circumstances. Dogs benefit from a certain amount of routine and consistent expectations. And it’s important to note that a dog's behavior can change or deteriorate over time. We believe that supervising behavior is a continuous process. And we periodically re-assess dogs in our camp programs. Dogs who have not attended our camps in 6 months or longer may have to be re-assessed before participating in day camp or swim camp. - Do I have to have a reservation for camp?
- We require advance reservations for our Day Camps and Swim Camps. We do everything possible to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our campers. One way we do this, is to closely monitor our camper-to-counselor ratio.
We are unable to guarantee walk-ins will be assigned to a camp. We can, however, provide walk-ins with individualized Getaway Day Care. In addition, we are unable to introduce campers into a play group, once the play group has been established. Day campers need to be at the Resort by 8 a.m., to ensure they will be placed in a morning camp session. They need to be at the Resort by 12 noon to ensure they will be placed in an afternoon camp session.
Boarding
- I want to bring my own food for my dog when he boards. Can I do that?
- We feed Flint River Ranch, which is an all natural, easily digestible food that our guests really like. Please be sure and ask for a free sample or two when you take a tour. You may bring your own food, if necessary. We require that you bag it in meal sized quantities, and complete a special diet request form. There is a $1 charge per meal for feeding owner’s food. We will also feed your pet any of the natural food brands that we carry in our food emporium. There is an additional $1 per meal charge for this as well.
- Can I bring my dog’s bed?
- We do not accept any outside bedding. Fleas and ticks can come in on bedding and we don’t want to risk that happening to guests at the Resort. We provide bedding for all of our guests, unless your dog has a history of destroying bedding. We have raised bedding, foam mattress bedding, and foldable mats.
Training
- I want to do Agility with my dog. What are the requirements?
- We require a Family Dog Class or equivalent. Dogs must be under control, non-aggressive, and have reliable sit/stay, down/stay, come commands. We prefer the dog be at least 1 year old.
- Do I need to take the Canine Good Citizen class in order to take the test?
- No, you can come and test on the test nights for a small fee.
- How old must my puppy be for a puppy class?
- Your puppy must have had its first two distemper/parvo vaccinations, and be between the ages of 3 and 6 months.
- What is the age for the Family Dog Class?
- Generally, 6 months and older
- What is the Canine Good Citizen class?
- Canine Good Citizen is a program started by AKC to reward dogs who are well behaved in the community and at home. The goals of the class are to teach responsible dog ownership, and reward owners that provide basic training and good manners to their dog. There are 10 steps in the test. The our trainers cover those 10 requirements and give you opportunity to practice in an appropriate environment.
- Do you give one-on-one lessons?
- Yes, we have 3 instructors with many years of experience with all types of dogs. Behavior issues, such as jumping, barking, basic obedience, and aggression are all addressed. We will also evaluate your dog for certain classes, such as agility. Private lessons are given, by appointment, throughout the day and evening.
- I want to do Agility, and my dog knows the basics, but I’m unable to make the Agility 1 class. What options do I have?
- We offer private lessons to teach you and your dog the skills you need to learn.
- What are the steps to agility if my goal is to compete in agility?
- The steps we recommend are: Family Dog, Agility 1, Agility 2, for classes, and then you would move to our on-going (punch card classes) such as Pre-Novice, Novice, Advanced, and Master’s, depending on your skill level.
- What is a Punch Card Class?
- These are for people that have successfully completed Agility I and Agility II. They are ready to move to a class that is ongoing. For our on-going classes, you may purchase a punch card, and each time you come, the card is punched.
